Elective Examples

 Join Mr. McHugh to create something new. Students will start by examining alphabets and calligraphy from different languages and cultures. They will then create their own alphabet by making symbols and assigning sounds to them. Once they finish their alphabet, they will start creating words using the letters from their alphabet. Their final project will be writing a letter to someone in the language they created.  

 Emily Arrow is a favorite in Mrs. Waterman's classroom! Emily Arrow creates literature inspired music for children, cultivating an appreciation and love for singing, songwriting, and literature. In this elective, we will read the story, sing the accompanying song and create a art piece to go with it.  Some of her fun songs include The Dot Song, The Curious Garden Song, and Louise Loves Art Song! 

Interested in all things that lived long before us? Join Mr. Beck in Dino Club! From making DINO-ramas, to making accurate dino-sized footprints, we'll learn about all things prehistoric!

 Ms. Connell will be your guide as you learn about wonderful places around the world by experiencing amazing landscapes, architecture, and music specific to those places. Just like a traveling artist you will be able to use the inspiration of your visits to make unique and beautiful art! You will get to better know the world you live in and have time to practice your art. 

 Explore STEM with Mrs. Riddell. STEM club will require you to use your imagination!  We will be completing challenges designed to test your creativity and perseverance! These challenges will use a variety of materials and will require some out of the box thinking!  Be creative! 

 This is a continuation of the concert band elective from Trimester 1 with Ms. Mason. Students in grades 5-8 who have played an instrument for 1 year are eligible to join the concert band. Students will learn how to play together as an ensemble and will learn pieces to perform at the spring concert. This is a graded elective and occurs the whole school year.
