At Gate City Charter School for the Arts, learning is hands-on, creative, and purposeful. Our arts-integrated, project-based curriculum challenges students to think critically, collaborate, and express their understanding in meaningful ways. Whether through music, movement, theater, visual art, technology, or creative writing, the arts are embedded into every subject area, helping students connect ideas, build confidence, and cultivate a lifelong love of learning.

Core Features of our Program

  • Project-Based Learning (PBL): Students explore authentic, real-world problems and present their learning through exhibitions, performances, and creative projects.
  • Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS): Used across grade levels to deepen observation, questioning, and discussion, strengthening both critical thinking and communication skills.
  • Cross-Curricular & STEAM Focus: Our curriculum intentionally connects Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics with literacy and social studies, ensuring students apply creativity and problem-solving across disciplines.
  • Technology Integration: From digital tools in the classroom to coding and media arts, students learn to use technology as a powerful tool for creativity, research, and innovation.
  • Wellness & Social-Emotional Learning: We nurture the whole child through Responsive Classroom practices, Choose Love curriculum, and daily routines that emphasize empathy, resilience, and self-care. Physical education, mindfulness, and health education help students develop lifelong wellness habits.
  • Art Portfolios: Every student maintains a portfolio that showcases their growth across multiple art forms and academic subjects. These portfolios serve as a record of progress, creativity, and reflection—demonstrating how the arts connect with learning across the curriculum.

Elementary School (K–5)

  • Fundations (K–3): Builds strong foundations in phonics, handwriting, and spelling to support early literacy success.
  • Mystery Science (K–5): Inquiry-driven science lessons spark curiosity, promote hands-on discovery, and build scientific thinking.
  • Savvas (K–5): Provides a structured and engaging core curriculum in literacy and math that complements and supports arts integration and project-based learning.
  • Expeditionary Learning (EL): Engages students in meaningful, adventure-filled projects that connect learning to the community and natural world.

Middle School (6–8)

  • Expeditionary Learning (EL): Middle schoolers expand their ability to investigate, create, and lead, applying learning to authentic community-based challenges.
  • Civics & iCivics: Our civics program prepares students to be informed, engaged citizens. Using iCivics, students explore the Constitution, government, and civic responsibility through interactive, game-based learning that makes abstract concepts come alive.

  • Middle School Lab Science: Students step into the role of scientists, conducting hands-on experiments, engineering solutions, and exploring big questions about the natural world. From dissecting ecosystems to designing experiments, our lab-based program builds curiosity, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving skills.
  • Savvas (6–8): Builds academic rigor in literacy and math, supporting cross-curricular and arts-integrated learning.

Arts, STEAM, Wellness & Electives (K–8)

Our electives and enrichment programs allow students to explore new interests and deepen existing passions. Offerings may include:
