Meet the Teacher

Mr. McHugh is the 4th & 5th Grade Humanities Teacher. This will be his tenth year with Gate City Charter School for the Arts. He started in 2016 as a substitute teacher. Later that year, he transitioned to an educational assistant position in Second Grade. The following year, he became the Kindergarten Teacher. He taught Kindergarten for a total of four years; First Grade for two years; and worked last year as a Title I instructor. 

He is thrilled to jump into a new challenge in the upper elementary grades this year. He taught many of the incoming fourth and fifth graders when they were in Kindergarten and First Grade, and is looking forward to the journey coming full circle. In his spare time, Mr. McHugh likes to write, play/watch basketball, and spend time with his two-year old son, River.
